Multi Headed Daffodils

Dwarf, multi headed daffodils are an excellent choice if impact is needed but space is limited. Tate is a justifiably popular daffodil, for one bulb will provide two or three, well proportioned flowers on each stem, each with a golden head and cup to match. Jumble may be less well known, but it too will provide a mass of flowers.

The cups are slightly longer and appear to look in all directions, hence its name. Another great favorite is the cultivar, which has pale yellow petals and a broad golden cup. All three are short, sturdy growers, and these qualities make them excellent choices for early spring pots, window boxed and especially, hanging baskets. Plant the daffodils with anemone bland, in white or shades of blue or mixed colors, under plant them with large crocuses, such as remembrance, or with single tulips, such as Shakespeare.

Together these bulbs can create a beautiful early spring picture. Violas, double daisies and primroses, combined with winter flowering heathers and ivies, will make pretty partners. Ever green trails of ivy can be used to cloth the outside of an early spring basket. Use a few wire staples to peg the ivy into the moss sides and encourage it to make a complete ball of greenery to form the basis of the spring bulb display.

This has an added advantage of preventing the ivy from being tossed about in cold winter winds, which will damage the tip ends. Plant the basket in autumn, choosing one with a diameter of 14 inches. Use three ivies and a mixture of 15 dwarf multi headed daffodils, such as quince, and 15 pretty blue anemones.
